CARRBORO, NC -- Due to equipment issues affecting leaf collection vehicles, residents will experience delays in leaf pickup until further notice.
Public Works crews are currently focused on completing the second and fourth week collection routes. Another truck is expected to return to service by mid next week. As a result, collections for the first and third week routes areas will be delayed by only a few days.
The Town of Carrboro appreciates residents’ patience and offers the following reminders to help keep roadways, sidewalks and bike lanes clear:
- Do not place leaves in the street or block sidewalks, bike lanes or storm drains.
- Consider using a roll-out cart, which can be collected by an automated side-loader refuse truck or place leaves in paper yard bag.
- Do not use plastic bags.
- Keep at least 1 foot between the curb and the leaf pile.
- Loose leaves must be free of dirt, sod, rocks or concrete.

The Town of Carrboro also encourages residents to “Leave the Leaves”:
- Leave them where they fall. Fallen leaves provide shelter for fireflies, beetles and butterflies, and save time on yard work.
- Rake leaves under trees and shrubs or into perennial beds. They act as natural mulch that suppresses weeds and retains moisture.
- Compost your leaves. Compost adds valuable nutrients to your soil for healthier spring plants.
